Flex studies the material qualities of plywood and its relationship with the tectonic system of bending. Working with the primary material testing framework through the use of laser cutting and computation models such as AutoCAD, Rhino, and Grasshopper. The overall design allows plywood sheets to achieve an immense amount of flexibility in both the x and y-axis while creating a surface texture. Flex comes in 4’x8’ seamless interlocking sheets that can perform as a spatial divider or a passageway while creating an architectural atmospheric space. Users are submerged in an atmosphere with the provocative textural surface which also allows light to seep through. Custom curvatures are created and secured with prefabricated wood channels that become an outer frame for the entire exterior panel. Alternatively, the panels can be secured and flexed using tension cables. The transportability, flexibility, and modularity of the sheets allow for accessibility and an infinity of arrangements.
