DENDRO
Fort York Visitor Center, Toronto, Ontario. Dendro aims to improve the experiences Canadian Indigenous peoples face through a stronger response to culture, safety and well being. Dendro pays homage to the indigenous community and their involvement in the 1812 war, relevant to the site context. Transforming the site into a cultural centre for both indigenous communities and Toronto as a whole. Connectivity is focused on throughout the project through spatial manipulation, form, materiality, cultural programming and symbolism. The programming of the space is based on indigenous needs as well as being an educational experience for indigenous and non-indigenous community members. The design fosters sustainability, and aboriginal symbolism and wellbeing. Ultimately impacting Canadian Indigenous peoples by creating community wellbeing, inclusion, and cognizance through providing an experience that’s culturally appropriate, educational, and enriching.
